Assemblymember Bocanegra Statement on DACA Repeal

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra (D-Pacoima) released the following statement after President Trump’s decision to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“Today’s unfortunate decision by the President to end DACA program is both alarming and concerning. DACA came about because we wanted to make sure that children who know no country other than the United States and those who are as American as those born on our soil were allowed to remain productive members of our economy and our society, thus continuing the pursuit of the  the American Dream.

More than 220,000 Californians have benefitted from DACA. These children have done nothing wrong, and this country is the only home they’ve known. It is shameful to pull the rug out from under them.

We in the Legislature will continue to lead and protect all Californians, especially those who will be the leaders of the future.

There are also many resources, including umbrella organizations and regional service providers across the state that can assist Californians facing immigration issues.”

These organizations include:

  • National Immigration Law Center (213) 639-3900 (Los Angeles)
  • American Civil Liberties Union (213) 977-9500 (Southern California)
